Robert J. Ohlheiser is a Software Engineer specializing in enterprise and small systems software development. He has over 25 years experience designing and implementing software systems. For the past 13 years, Bob has owned and operated R. J. Ohlheiser, Inc., a software engineering and consulting firm serving the insurance and financial services industries. Prior to this, Bob was employed by OnLine Software International and Vantage Computer Systems. Bob is educated and experienced in fundamental software engineering disciplines as well as modern methods including formal requirement specification, and object oriented design. He is experienced in conducting project assessments, preparing feasibility studies, writing software requirements specifications, managing development projects, as well as designing and implementing software systems. He has provided these services to numerous financial services industry clients including insurance carriers, brokerage firms, pension administrators and managed health care concerns. Bob has successfully combined strong technical development abilities with business analysis and understanding skills in order to provide clients cost effective, useful, and correct software systems. Bob continually monitors advances in software engineering in both the commercial and academic worlds. He is a member of the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. Current research interests include Web Services, secure software development, and the Microsoft .Net platform.

Selected Work Experience

• Designed and developed several enterprise and standalone PC based application systems including retail insurance illustrations, as well as private placement, COLI, and other equity based product illustrations for clients including CIGNA, Lincoln National, and Merrill Lynch. These projects utilized C++, MFC, ATL, COM, and VB.
• Designed and implemented a C++/COM financial projection calculation application framework.
• Designed and implemented major enhancements to a TV advertising analytics application. This C++/MFC program provides end Users comprehensive analysis and reporting of Nielsen National Market data.
• Designed and implemented a web based inventory and order status application for a construction products distributor. This C++/MFC/ASP, SQL Server project extracts data from the Client’s third party order entry application’s proprietary database.
• Designed and implemented web sites for small businesses and non-profit organizations.

• Designed and managed development effort for a Universal Life Insurance Administration Systems for Vantage Computer Systems.
• Performed a compressive functional analysis of pension administrative systems for The Hartford Group. Recommendations aided this Client in making system upgrade / replace decisions.
• Managed fixed bid consulting engagements to enhance pension administration systems for The Hartford Group.
• Managed ongoing consulting engagements for up to 10 staff consultants for OnLine Software International.
